A Curious Collection
Welcome to a collection of art and culture notes
Writers, artists, books, ideas, places, music, history, discoveries, and the occasional odd thing that is simply worth knowing about. There is no particular order and no attempt to cover everything. Some subjects are well known; others are not. Some have been around for centuries, while others are much more recent. The only real connection is that they caught my attention and seemed worth sharing. You may already know some of them. You may have forgotten others. And some may be completely new. Have a look around and see what you find.

Privacy and Cookies
Owner and Controller
For personal information submitted directly to the Publisher, Ardan Michael Blum determines why and how the information is used and is the data controller where that term applies.
Third-party providers may process other information as processors, service providers, or independent controllers under their own terms, privacy policies, and legal responsibilities.
Information You Provide
The Site may receive:
-
your email address and message when you use the contact form;

material you voluntarily submit for possible editorial consideration or publication.
Information processed by the Site
The following categories of information may be processed:
-
Information you provide: email address, telephone number, message, correction, permission request, or any other information you choose to send.
-
Technical information: Wix or another provider may process the address of the requested page, Internet Protocol address, browser and device characteristics, request times, referring pages, interactions, cookie identifiers, and similar data required for hosting, security, operation, or requested features.
Please do not send passwords, financial-account information, medical records, government identification numbers, or other highly sensitive or confidential information through ordinary contact methods.
Purposes for using information
Information received directly by the publisher may be used to:
-
read and respond to messages, corrections, and permission requests;
-
manage content submitted to the project;
-
prevent spam, abuse, fraud, or security incidents;
-
protect rights and safety; and
-
comply with applicable law and valid legal process.
Wix and other providers may process technical data to provide, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve their services, in accordance with their own terms and policies.
Wix, Google Forms, and embedded services
The Site is created and hosted using Wix. Wix may process technical data necessary to provide, secure, maintain, and operate the platform. Wix describes its practices in its Privacy Policy and its documentation about cookies and Wix sites. The publisher has not installed Google Analytics and has not added advertising, remarketing, or cross-site behavioral-tracking code under the publisher’s control to the Site. This statement does not mean that the Site is cookie-free or that no technical processing occurs: Wix uses cookies and similar technologies for security, fraud prevention, stability, rendering, operation, and platform effectiveness. The Site links to a contact form hosted by Google Forms. The form currently asks for an email address and a message. If you submit it, Google processes the response and the publisher receives the information entered. Google describes its practices in its Privacy Policy and its explanation of how it uses information from sites and applications that use its services. Providing contact information is optional, although a valid reply address may be necessary to receive a response. Some pages may contain YouTube videos, Google Maps, calendars, audio or video players, documents, social-media modules, or other embedded content. When such content loads, its provider may receive technical information and use cookies, tracking pixels, web beacons, scripts, embedded frames, local or session storage, identifiers, interaction data, or similar technologies. If you are signed in to the relevant service, the provider may associate the interaction with your account in accordance with its own policies and settings.
Cookies and similar technologies
Wix states that cookies initially placed on a Wix site can generally be classified as essential. They may be used for security, attack and fraud detection, stability, rendering, interface protection, and platform operation. Wix features, apps, components, code, and third-party integrations enabled on a page may add functional, analytics, or marketing cookies. Where prior consent is legally required, nonessential cookies and scripts should remain disabled until the visitor makes a choice. Wix’s consent banner may allow visitors to accept or reject nonessential categories and change those preferences later. Browser settings provide an additional way to block or delete cookies, but doing so may limit some features. A privacy policy alone does not replace legally required consent for nonessential cookies, scripts, tags, pixels, embedded content, or other technologies.
Embedded Content and Third-Party Technologies
Some pages may contain or link to third-party content or services, including:
-
embedded YouTube videos;
-
Google Maps;
-
calendars;
-
Google documents or forms;
-
audio or video players;
-
social-media widgets;
-
ticketing or event services;
-
advertising or audience-measurement services, if introduced and separately disclosed; or
-
other third-party tools, trackers, or interactive features.
Depending on the service and how it is implemented, a provider may receive information when its content loads or when a visitor interacts with it. Technologies used by a provider may include:
-
cookies;
-
tracking pixels;
-
web beacons;
-
tags;
-
scripts;
-
embedded frames;
-
local or session storage;
-
device or advertising identifiers;
-
Internet Protocol addresses;
-
browser and device characteristics;
-
referring-page information;
-
interaction data;
-
software development kits; or
-
similar tracking, storage, or measurement technologies.
Information, Use and Limitations
Nature of the Site and Content
For this legal page, “Site” means this website and the subdomains covered by this notice. “Content” means material published or made available through them. The Site publishes independent reporting, essays, notes, guides, reviews, commentary, reference material, translations, personal recollections, technical examples, recommendations, and creative work. These forms are not interchangeable. An opinion or interpretation is not an established fact; a citation supports only the point for which it is used; a recommendation is not appropriate for every reader; and fiction, satire, parody, or other creative writing is not factual reporting unless expressly presented as such.
No page claims to identify or resolve every relevant fact, argument, uncertainty, exception, individual circumstance, or later development.
Sources, Uncertainty and Corrections
The Publisher aims to use credible sources, consult primary material where practical, distinguish documented facts from interpretation, identify material uncertainty, attribute quotations, verify consequential details, and correct confirmed errors. These practices describe an editorial process, not a guarantee that every statement, source, quotation, inference, date, or conclusion is complete, current, or correct. Sources may conflict, omit context, repeat earlier mistakes, change after publication, or support more than one reasonable interpretation. Historical, biographical, cultural, and scientific conclusions may remain provisional because archives, provenance, testimony, measurements, terminology, and research methods can be incomplete, disputed, or revised.
Summaries, excerpts, reviews, and contextual explanations necessarily omit part of their sources and are not substitutes for the complete originals. A citation or link identifies a source or useful further reading; it does not mean that the source endorses the Site, that the Publisher endorses everything in the source, or that the source supports every statement appearing nearby. When exact wording, methodology, evidentiary weight, legal effect, or complete context matters, readers should consult the original material and any relevant correction, amendment, later edition, or superseding authority. Personal recollections, interviews, oral histories, testimony, and contributed stories preserve a person’s memory and perspective. They should not automatically be treated as contemporaneous documentation or independently verified history. Translations, transcriptions, transliterations, captions, subtitles, and machine-assisted renderings are interpretive and may lose ambiguity, tone, cultural meaning, or technical precision. Unless expressly stated otherwise, they are provided for general understanding rather than as certified, legal, contractual, liturgical, diplomatic, or evidentiary versions. When exact language controls, the original-language source should be consulted.
No Individualized Professional Advice or Relationship
The Site provides general informational, editorial, and educational material. Its content is not tailored to any reader’s particular circumstances and should not be treated as a substitute for guidance from an appropriately qualified professional. Reading the Site or sending a message does not by itself create a professional, advisory, consulting, fiduciary, agency, contractual, confidential, or legally privileged relationship. Site communications are not formal notices and should not be relied upon to establish, preserve, or satisfy any right, obligation, claim, or deadline. Any professional engagement begins only under separate written terms expressly accepted by both parties.
Changing, Practical and Time-Sensitive Information
Dates, schedules, prices, availability, tickets, opening hours, access arrangements, transportation, parking, routes, weather, local conditions, laws, regulations, institutional policies, technical standards, software behavior, product specifications, domain status, and third-party services may change without notice. A publication or update date is an editorial reference point. It does not guarantee that every detail was correct on that date or remains correct afterward. Before traveling, booking, purchasing, attending an event, implementing technical material, registering a domain, or taking another consequential action, readers should confirm material details with the responsible organizer, provider, transportation operator, registrar, standards body, government agency, healthcare professional, or other authoritative source. Follow current laws, official instructions, posted warnings, closures, and observable conditions. Descriptions such as “short,” “easy,” “walkable,” “convenient,” “safe,” or “accessible” are necessarily general. Their practical meaning may vary according to health, disability, mobility, age, experience, equipment, weather, construction, traffic, service disruption, and other circumstances unknown to the Publisher.
Statements about future events, projected dates, proposed policies, markets, technologies, research outcomes, or expected developments are inherently uncertain and should not be understood as promises or guarantees.
Technical, Scientific, Search and Domain Material
Technical explanations, code, markup, configurations, calculations, troubleshooting suggestions, and experimental proposals are illustrative. They are not certified as error-free, production-ready, secure, accessible, standards-conforming, interoperable, lawful, or suitable for a particular system. Before implementation, readers should consult current authoritative documentation, assess dependencies and risks, preserve tested backups, use staging or isolated environments where appropriate, and test under the actual conditions of intended use. Scientific studies, datasets, classifications, models, and forecasts may rely on assumptions, limited samples, imperfect measurements, omitted variables, or conditions that do not apply elsewhere. Association does not by itself establish causation, peer review does not guarantee correctness, and discussion of a study does not independently validate it or establish its suitability for an individual decision. Material about search engines, publishing, localization, artificial intelligence, marketing, analytics, websites, or discoverability is general commentary rather than a promise of crawling, indexing, rankings, visibility, traffic, inquiries, sales, revenue, or return on investment. Search systems, documentation, competitors, and user behavior change continually. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes.
Domain registrations remain subject to registrar and registry terms, renewal requirements, dispute procedures, technical limitations, and applicable law. No discussion or estimate guarantees availability, continued control, compatibility, legality, liquidity, or resale value and should not be treated as an appraisal, investment recommendation, offer, solicitation, or brokerage service.
Reviews, rankings, comparisons, and recommendations reflect editorial judgment and information available when written. Readers should independently evaluate current specifications, prices, availability, risks, and provider terms before committing money or substantial time.
Religious, Cultural and Creative Material
Religious and cultural material may describe a particular tradition, denomination, community, interpretation, translation, or practice. Religious laws, customs, calendars, texts, and rulings differ among communities and qualified authorities. General discussion is not an individualized religious, pastoral, rabbinic, or halachic ruling and should not be assumed to speak for every member or authority of a faith or culture. Fiction, satire, parody, humor, magical realism, dramatic reconstruction, and other creative work should not be interpreted as factual reporting unless expressly presented as such. Creative material may combine invention with real places, people, traditions, or events. Where a page requires a more specific fiction, reconstruction, or recollection notice, that notice should appear with the relevant work.
Artificial Intelligence and Editorial Assistance
Some material may be researched, fact-checked, organized, translated, and/or revised with the assistance of artificial-intelligence tools. These tools can help identify possible sources, test wording and flag factual or logical problems, but their output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, misattributed or fabricated. Artificial intelligence is used as an editorial aid. Ardan Michael Blum selects the subjects, directs the work, substantively reviews the material, makes the final editorial decisions and retains editorial control and responsibility for what is published. Material is not published merely because an AI system produced or recommended it.
The nature and extent of AI assistance may differ between pages. When applicable law requires a specific disclosure concerning AI-generated or materially altered content, or an AI-mediated interaction, the Publisher will provide that disclosure with the affected content or interaction, in the form and location required by law. References to fact-checking or AI-assisted research describe parts of an editorial process. They are not representations, warranties or guarantees that any page is complete, neutral, current, accurate or free from error. Nothing in this section excludes, restricts or waives any duty, remedy or liability that applicable law does not permit to be excluded, restricted or waived.
External Sources, Links and Services
External websites, files, embeds, applications, maps, videos, forms, ticketing systems, archives, databases, and other services are controlled by their respective providers and may change without notice. The Publisher does not control their continuing accuracy, availability, security, prices, content, or terms. A link, citation, quotation, or embed does not by itself imply endorsement, affiliation, authorization, or acceptance of responsibility for everything supplied by the third party. Embedded services may process visitor information; relevant details appear in the Privacy and Cookies section below.
Availability and Legal Limits
The Site is provided for general editorial and informational use. It may contain errors, and pages, files, links, or features may be corrected, revised, moved, consolidated, withdrawn, interrupted, or become unavailable. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no promise or warranty is made that all Content will always be complete, accurate, current, uninterrupted, secure, or suitable for a particular purpose. Readers remain responsible for evaluating the Content and for decisions made in reliance upon it. Nothing in this notice excludes or limits any right, remedy, duty, consumer protection, or liability that applicable law does not permit to be excluded or limited.More specific warnings, disclosures, or terms appearing on a particular page or service supplement this section and should be read together with it. Where specific language addresses a subject more precisely, that language governs that subject to the extent of any irreconcilable inconsistency. This section may be revised as the Site, its subject matter, technology, or applicable requirements change.
Retention and Security
Contact information and correspondence are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, manage related follow-up, document a permission or correction, prevent abuse, comply with a legal obligation, or establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.
Third-party providers retain information according to their own policies and service settings.
Reasonable care is taken with information handled directly by the Publisher. No method of Internet transmission, electronic storage, or third-party service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Commercial Relationships
The Site does not currently carry paid advertising, affiliate links, sponsored placements, or paid recommendations. Links to the Publisher’s own projects or professional work are not third-party paid advertisements.
Copyright and Permitted Use
Unless otherwise stated, copyright in original human-authored expression, editorial selection and arrangement, and other protectable material on the Site belongs to Ardan Michael Blum to the extent recognized by law. © 2026 Ardan Michael Blum. All rights reserved. Copyright does not extend to facts, ideas, methods, public-domain material, or third-party material merely because it appears on the Site. Quotations, trademarks, photographs, illustrations, documents, and other third-party materials remain subject to the rights of their respective owners. You may link to public pages, save or print a reasonable copy for personal non-commercial use, and quote limited excerpts for commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, scholarship, or review, with reasonable attribution and a link where practical. These permissions do not limit fair use, fair dealing, public-domain use, or other rights provided by law. Except where applicable law permits otherwise, substantial republication, commercial redistribution, bulk scraping, systematic copying, or creation of a dataset from substantial portions of the Site requires prior permission.
Except where authorized by law, no permission is granted to use substantial portions of protectable Site content for machine-learning training, model fine-tuning, commercial retrieval systems, or the creation of competing or substitute content. This reservation does not restrict facts, ideas, public-domain material, fair use, lawful research, or other legal exceptions that cannot be excluded.
Applicable Privacy Laws and Rights
Privacy rights depend on where a person lives, the nature of the Site, and whether a particular law applies. Nothing in this notice is intended to reduce a right provided by applicable law.
California
Where California privacy law applies, California residents may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal information. They may also have rights concerning the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising, sensitive personal information, and retaliation for exercising privacy rights.
The Publisher does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising.
The Site does not respond differently to the older “Do Not Track” signal because that signal does not communicate a universally standardized legal request.
Global Privacy Control may constitute a legally recognized opt-out request. Because the Publisher does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no Publisher-operated sale or advertising-sharing system for the signal to disable. Where applicable law nevertheless requires action in response to a recognized privacy signal, the Publisher will comply with that requirement.
European Economic Area
Where the European Union General Data Protection Regulation applies, processing may rely on:
-
legitimate interests, including operating and protecting an independent publication, receiving and answering correspondence, correcting errors, preventing misuse, and protecting legal rights;
-
steps taken at a person’s request before entering into a contract, where a communication concerns possible professional services;
-
consent, where consent is requested and legally required; or
-
legal obligations, where information must be retained, used, or disclosed under applicable law.
People covered by the GDPR may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a portable copy of their personal information. They may also have the right to object to certain processing, withdraw consent for future processing, and complain to the competent supervisory authority. European electronic-privacy and national cookie laws may require consent before non-essential cookies, web beacons, tracking pixels, local storage, or similar technologies are used.
United Kingdom
Where the United Kingdom GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, or Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations apply, individuals may have rights to access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent, and complaint to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Non-essential cookies and comparable storage or access technologies will be subject to consent where United Kingdom law requires it.
Switzerland
Where the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies, individuals may request information about personal data processed by the Publisher and may have rights to correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or other remedies provided by Swiss law. Google and other providers may process information outside Switzerland. Their privacy policies describe their processing locations and the transfer safeguards they use.
Other United States Privacy Laws
Residents of other U.S. states may have additional rights where their state privacy laws apply. Depending on the law, these may include access, correction, deletion, data portability, and the ability to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain forms of profiling. The Publisher does not conduct profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Exercising Your Rights
Privacy requests may be submitted through the procedure and contact information below.
The Publisher will not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right where applicable law prohibits such discrimination. A request may be limited or refused where applicable law permits, including when the Publisher cannot reasonably verify the request, does not hold the relevant information, or must retain it for legal, security, freedom-of-expression, or claims-related purposes.
Children
The contact form is not intended to collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has submitted personal information, please report it so the situation can be reviewed and, where appropriate, the information deleted.
Accessibility
The Publisher aims to make the Site accessible and usable for as many people as possible and uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, Level AA as a technical reference. Accessibility is an ongoing objective. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please identify the page and describe the difficulty. Information about your browser, device, or assistive technology can be helpful but is not required. A good-faith effort will be made to review the problem and provide reasonable assistance or an accessible alternative where possible.
Requests, Corrections and Other Concerns
To request permission or accessibility assistance, submit a correction or privacy-rights request, or report suspected infringement, incorrect attribution, a privacy concern, or another issue involving Site material, please provide:
-
the page address;
-
identification of the material;
-
a clear description of the request or concern;
-
supporting information, such as a reliable source for a requested correction, where relevant; and
-
reliable contact information.
Enough information may be requested to locate the relevant material, understand the request, and, where legally necessary, reasonably verify the requester’s identity or authority. This is a direct editorial contact procedure; it is not a representation that the Site has registered a designated agent under section 512 of the United States Copyright Act.
Material corrections may be identified by an updated date or explanatory note.

Optional advertising-industry tools
Advertising-industry choice tools apply to participating companies and do not block all cookies or all forms of tracking. Their inclusion does not mean that the Site displays advertising or uses advertising-tracking tools.
These external tools are supplementary. They do not replace any consent or opt-out mechanism that the Site itself is legally required to provide.
Global Privacy Control
Global Privacy Control sends a data-protection preference signal from the browser. Its legal effect depends on the visitor’s jurisdiction and whether the receiving organization is subject to the relevant law.
